Connect your assistant

Connect Claude, ChatGPT, or another compatible assistant to your family's Mavo calendar, plans, lists, meals, and people.

If you already use Claude, ChatGPT, or another AI assistant, you can bring your family's Mavo into that conversation. Ask your assistant to "add the dentist Thursday at 3 to our family calendar" and it lands on the same shared calendar everyone sees.

Before you start

  • Connecting assistants is free with every Mavo membership.
  • You need a Mavo account that belongs to the family you want to use.
  • Your assistant needs to support a secure remote custom connection. The assistant provider's own availability and plan requirements still apply.

Claude

  1. In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and add a custom connector.
  2. Name it Mavo and paste https://mavolife.com/mcp.
  3. Sign in to Mavo, check which assistant is asking, and choose Allow.

Claude currently offers custom connections on supported paid plans. Check Anthropic's current availability.

ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings → Security and login and turn on Developer mode if your plan offers it.
  2. Open Plugins, select the plus button, name it Mavo, and use https://mavolife.com/mcp as its connection address.
  3. Create the connection, then sign in to Mavo when it opens and choose Allow.

Developer mode depends on your ChatGPT plan and workspace settings. Check OpenAI's current steps.

Another compatible assistant

  1. Add a secure remote custom connection or MCP server and paste: https://mavolife.com/mcp
  2. Mavo opens and asks you to sign in, then shows which assistant is asking and where it sends you back. Choose Allow. Your assistant registers itself and handles the access token from there.
  3. If your Mavo account belongs to more than one family and a tool asks which family to use, give it your family name for connections. It's shown in Settings → Connected assistant, and can also be sent as the x-mavo-family-slug header in manual setups.

Advanced clients that want the raw sign-in details can read the discovery addresses listed on the same Settings → Connected assistant page; most assistants find them automatically from the MCP address.

What your assistant can do

Dozens of household actions, split into reads and writes:

  • Calendar: query events across every family calendar; add, update, move, or remove events. Ask to "show our family week" for a compact schedule-and-responsibility view in assistants that support MCP Apps; every other client receives the same result as text and structured data.
  • Plans: read the things the family is planning; start a plan, link calendar events, write and edit notes, open a date poll and reword its question or its choices, cast and take back your own vote, settle the poll, and turn a plan's public share page on or off.
  • Lists and meals: read and change items in any collection (groceries, meals, custom lists), and manage the collections themselves.
  • People: list and manage the household's people.
  • Notifications: read recent notifications, send one, and manage notification preferences and routines like the digest.
  • Outside calendars: list, link, refresh, or remove external calendar feeds, and manage calendar share links.
  • Webhooks: manage outbound webhook destinations.
  • Checks: look up weather, search the web, read a page, and schedule a pre-event check.

If your account belongs to one family, Mavo uses it automatically. If your account belongs to more than one family, calls can name the family by slug so one connection works across any family you belong to.

Good to know

  • Mavo asks before any assistant connects. The Allow screen names the assistant, the families it can use, and the site or app it sends you back to. Only choose Allow if you started the connection yourself just now.
  • Your assistant acts as you, without an extra confirmation step inside Mavo. In Mavo's own chat, Mavo previews changes before saving; a connected assistant is trusted with your access once you choose Allow. Keep an eye on What Changed and your notifications.
  • You can disconnect from Mavo. Settings → Connected assistant lists every assistant you've allowed. Disconnect one and it stops working with Mavo right away, whatever its own settings say.
  • Your assistant subscription stays separate. Mavo does not charge an extra connection fee, but your assistant provider controls which plans can add custom connections and how usage is counted.
