How Mavo works
What Mavo is, the ideas behind it, and where everything lives: the shared plan, plan items, owners, and Mavo AI.
Mavo gives your family one place to run the week: a shared calendar, lists, groceries, and meals, with a family assistant that helps capture and organize all of it. Instead of a dozen apps and a buried group chat, everyone looks at the same plan.
Three questions drive everything in Mavo:
- What's happening? The shared plan holds the calendar, lists, and meals.
- Who's handling it? Every event and task can carry an owner.
- What still needs attention? Anything without an owner, or quietly slipping, gets surfaced instead of forgotten.
The words Mavo uses
- Family (or household): the shared space for the people running life together. You can belong to more than one family, like your own household and a parent you help, and switch between them.
- Plan item: anything captured into the plan: a calendar event, a task, a list entry.
- Shared plan: the combined view of the calendar, lists, groceries, and meals.
- Add from Anywhere: forward an email, paste text, share a link, or upload a file, and Mavo turns it into plan items. See Add from Anywhere.
- Who's Handling It: owners on events and tasks, so "I thought you had it" stops happening. See Who's Handling It.
- Covered / Needs Attention: something with an owner is covered; anything else needs attention and shows on Home until someone takes it.
- What Changed: the recent-activity view, so you can catch up after a busy day.
- Mavo AI: the family assistant. It reads what you send in, adds plan items, answers questions about the week, and can watch for things like weather. For changes worth a second look, it shows a preview and waits for your go-ahead.
Where things live
- Home: the family dashboard: chat with Mavo, Who's Handling What, Needs Attention, and quick capture.
- Calendar: the shared family calendar, filterable by person, including any outside calendars you've linked.
- Collections: lists, groceries, meals, and any custom lists your family keeps.
- Chats: every conversation with Mavo, including the ones started by a forwarded email.
- Settings: family settings (General, People, Who handles what, Send to Mavo, Digest, Plan & billing, Export, Developer) plus your personal profile, appearance, and notification choices.
A normal week
Forward the school newsletter to your family's Mavo address. Mavo pulls out picture day and the early release, puts them on the calendar, and asks who's covering the 1:15 pickup. You hand it to your partner; they accept with one tap from the email. Sunday evening the digest lands with the week ahead and the one thing that still needs an owner.
