Printable hangman games: two drawing options
Choose the conventional stick-figure sheet or the flower sheet, where each missed letter adds a petal. Both use six missed letters to finish the drawing, an alphabet to mark your guesses, and open space for a word or phrase. One person chooses the secret word; the other guesses its letters.
Two blank game pages per file: page 1 is conventional hangman; page 2 is the six-petal option. Print only the page you want. The secret-word prompts are in a separate download below, so answers aren’t printed on the game sheets. No account or email is needed.
Choose the drawing you want
The rules are the same on both sheets. The conventional version adds a head, body, left arm, right arm, left leg, then right leg. The flower version starts with a center, stem and leaves already drawn; add one petal per miss, clockwise from the top. Its small completed example numbers the six petals.
These are fixed sheets to write on with a pencil or pen, with no editable PDF fields. Use the PDF matching your paper and print at Actual size or 100%. The drawing, alphabet and instructions work in black and white.
How to play these six-miss games
- The host chooses a word or phrase and keeps it hidden. In the open word area, draw one short line for each letter, with a wider gap between words. Use another row if the phrase needs it.
- The guesser says one letter. If it appears in the answer, write it in every matching position and circle that letter in the alphabet. A correct letter adds no drawing part.
- If a new guessed letter is absent, cross it out in the alphabet, cross the next miss circle, and draw one part. Follow the six-part order for your chosen sheet.
- If the letter was already guessed, don’t change the drawing or miss count. Ask for another letter. This applies to correct and wrong repeated guesses.
- The guesser wins by revealing all the letters before the sixth miss. At six misses, the host reveals the answer and the round ends. Swap roles for the next round and use another blank sheet.
These sheets use letter guesses, so the six-miss count always records new wrong letters. The blank game pages don’t contain a secret answer; the host supplies the lines for each new round.
One guess can reveal several letters
For BANANA, draw six lines. An A guess fills the second, fourth and sixth positions together. If the guesser says A again, nothing changes. A new Z guess adds one miss and the first drawing part.

For PAPER BOAT, make five letter lines, a word gap, then four more lines. A P guess reveals both Ps in PAPER. An A guess reveals one letter in each word. Keep the gap visible throughout the round; it doesn’t count as a letter to guess.
Word prompts for the host
The separate host page has twelve word choices and six two-word phrases, with letter counts beside them. Use one or supply your own. Keep it out of the guesser’s view, and print it on a separate sheet rather than on the back of a game board.
Host only: read the word choices here

Words: PAPER (5), BANANA (6), KETTLE (6), GARDEN (6), POCKET (6), PICNIC (6), SHADOW (6), BUTTON (6), TUNNEL (6), ROCKET (6), POSTCARD (8), UMBRELLA (8).
Phrases: PAPER BOAT (5 + 4), RAINY DAY (5 + 3), BLUE SOCK (4 + 4), GOLDEN KEY (6 + 3), LUNCH BOX (5 + 3), TOY TRAIN (3 + 5). The numbers give each word’s letter count.
For a text version of all the instructions and host choices, open the game rules and host prompts. The letter tracker helps you spot repeat guesses, but the host still checks each new letter against the answer.
